Coach Tuft

Born and raised in North Carolina, Coach Tuft’s basketball journey began at the age of five in recreational leagues and grew quickly through his years with the Charlotte Royals AAU program. His talent and love for the game flourished at Cherryville High School, where he became a standout player, earning All-Conference, All-County, and All-State honors. As a sophomore and junior, he played a pivotal role in leading his team to the state semifinals, setting a standard of excellence that defined his playing career.

In 2012, Coach Tuft graduated from Cherryville and continued his academic and athletic pursuits at Mars Hill University, where he earned an academic scholarship and competed in Division I basketball. His playing career was cut short by a knee injury, but this challenge became the turning point that led him to coaching.

Determined to stay connected to the sport he loved, Coach Tuft began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at JCMS, then advanced to become an assistant coach at Lincolnton High School. Today, he serves as the JV Boys Assistant Coach at Maiden High School, where his leadership, energy, and deep understanding of the game continue to make a lasting impact.

Beyond the high school level, Coach Tuft has dedicated nine years to coaching AAU youth basketball, working with young athletes to develop their skills, discipline, and confidence both on and off the court. His coaching philosophy is rooted in teaching strong fundamentals, instilling resilience, and building character, ensuring that every player he mentors grows as both an athlete and an individual.

Coach Tuft’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and a commitment to shaping the future of the game through the athletes he inspires every day.
